Yes you idiot, there are spoilers.
It’s a very good movie that, in the end, only fans the flames of my evil genius side… you know, that “poison the well”, “launch all nuclear weapons”, “end all humanity” kind of evil genius.
Even though they barely touched on it, I like how the aliens are basically portrayed in different classes of intelligence and responsibilities. This fact is glaringly obvious when you see the technology the aliens posses, while the aliens we see are basically idiots with guns. There’s no way idiots like that could 1) create that technology, or 2) need that kind of weaponry if every member of that alien race was as inept as the masses we see in the film. The kind of alien that would require weapons of that level would be up against other aliens who were of a caliber capable of creating and wielding such weaponry.
So back to what I was saying… it makes no sense to me that all aliens in just about every movie are basically cookie cutter, and behave as if they are all the same kind of “person”. Can you imagine a giant human space ship the size of a city filled with white dudes, black dudes (yes black, not “African American” you douchebag), Asians, tall, short, fat, anorexic, smart, retarded, assholes, nice guys, officers, janitors, and everything in between… imagine that ship crash landing or coming into contact with an alien world? It would be utter chaos as some aliens and humans would be smart, a whole lot would be dumb, a few would try to make peaceful contact, while most would probably want to segregate and/or commit various acts of violence.
Anyway, it was a very intelligent movie, and I can’t wait to see what the sequel has in store. I hope its a trilogy, with round 2 really kicking the pants off humanity (let’s face it, we had it coming). Round 3 would then probably be some sort of reconciliation where a cease fire or some kind of co-existence is struck. If that doesn’t turn out to be the case, I’m certainly looking forward to the surprise.
