RTOTD: How the US Post Office can avoid bankruptcy

Random Thought Of The Day

So the US Post Office is dang-near bankrupt, and apparently has been on a steady financial decline for over a decade. Now they are talking about reducing expenses to the tune of $3 billion by cutting jobs and services. Are you kidding me? Here’s my idea to save the USPS… inject some sanity.

Step 1) Stop paying millions for TV commercials and ads that attack critical services like email. You look like a bunch of asshats when you do that, and you are wasting money that could go to getting yourself out of debt.

Step 2) Stop paying millions for TV commercials and ads for something that is as fundamental as breathing. Having an address and a USPS mailbox at that address is a given. You are wasting money that could go to getting yourself out of debt.

Step 3) Charge junk-mailers more to send their junk to my house. You are running out of money, and I’m short on time, and the forests are short on trees – it seems like a win-win-win for all of us to simply raise rates on junk-mailers. So much junk mail runs through the USPS every day that “pennies from heaven” could be a reality. Try raising their rate by just a penny and see what happens. Maybe you could pay some bills.

Step 4) Only then, if you’re still struggling to keep up, cut some jobs and reduce some services… and watch the UPS and FedEx vultures circle ever closer. I just hope I don’t have to have a separate mailbox for each service.
