Fall Cleaning!

I never understood spring cleaning. Well, I mean, I know it came about because back in the 12th century when people didn’t have fiberglass insulation, they made their homes/huts/whatever about as air tight as possible to keep the heat in during the winter months. Of course, this lead to a build up of dust and dirt and general filth within the home. So when it was finally warm enough, there would be a giant spring blow-out where doors and windows were opened and just about every item the family had was drug out and beat/washed/cleaned, then they started in on the home itself.

Well these days, we are fortunate enough to have modern conveniences like insulation and central air. So when spring does roll around, I just want to go outside and do things… away from the house… not sit there in it and clean stuff. Because of that, I’ve noticed a drive develop in me to do fall cleaning. The days are getting shorter, light is fading, and my urge to go outside to do things has gone with it. Because I’m staying indoors more often, I’m noticing how messy and unorganized things are, so I commence “operation fall cleaning!”.

This usually involves a dump run and a barrage of posts on craigslist. I used to get rid of things on eBay, but I’d always spend hours posting things on eBay only to get a few bucks. Craigslist is quick, and the time consuming part comes after the post, dealing with a bunch of lame ass losers who email and even set up times to come check out your stuff or even enthusiastically declare they are “on their way right now to pick it up before anyone else gets it”, only to waste your time standing you up. This is particularly annoying when you get an odd vibe from someone and instead of having them come over to your place you agree to meet them somewhere else, then they stand you up. So annoying. But still, craigslist makes it fairly easy to post things and I don’t want a lot of options and crap when I’m trying to get rid of my crap. The eBay I used to know was modeled after an “online garage sale” type thing, but now it’s morphed into an “instant ecommerce storefront” type thing… which is too much hassle for the garage sale mindset… all hail craigslist!

Anyway, back to it. I have a lot of indoor activities to work on this winter… stuff like coding software and messing with different technologies. A cluttered house is a cluttered mind, and I can’t afford to trip.
