Today’s WTF moment – oxygenating plants makes them grow?

I was checking my local hardware store’s website for available 50CFM vent fans and this ad caught my eye.

I couldn’t let this one go, so I found the manufacturer’s site and it also expounded on the virtues of oxygenated water for plants. Checking their site and FAQ section, they had plenty of marketing material but zero data on exactly how/why this works. I took it upon myself to find out by filling out their contact form.

In the end, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I’m really looking forward to hearing what they have to say.

It’s another marketing angle; the ratio of gullible people seems to be increasing exponentially. Apparently it’s hard to be different from the rest when you are selling a sprayer nozzle. I pretty sure my moderately intelligent 12 year old knows that plants do use oxygen in their green parts but they take only small amounts from Co2 they take in.
The cells in the roots need to get oxygen from the small air spaces in soil. I highly doubt watering them with water that’s been whipped up improves that oxygen uptake by enough to actually make a difference. Now I have found that using a very small amount of H202 in my water does improve a plants health theoretically it’s because it helps improve the roots oxygen uptake efficiency.

If only it added Nitrogen from the air to the water, then I’d be interested. Definately sounds bogus.

Interesting. As usual, just like lying, the best marketing campaigns do contain little granules of truth. I was unaware that plant roots needed oxygen… but I’m with you guys… it’s unlikely “nanobubbled water” will really do anything to improve a plant’s roots uptake oxygen.
